1.8 million Tesla vehicles recalled due to hood problems – WGAU

Tesla has recalled more than 1.8 million vehicles due to a problem with the hood latch.

The recall affects some vehicles in the Model 3, Model S and Model X (2021 to 2024) and Model Y (2020 to 2024) series, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

The locking assembly may not detect an unlocked hood if it has been opened.

According to NHTSA documentation, an unlocked hood can open while the driver is operating the vehicle, obstructing visibility and increasing the risk of a collision. Tesla began investigating customer complaints in China in March. In June, the company began reviewing latches in Europe and North America.

According to NHTSA, there have been three warranty claims or field reports that may be related to the problem, but Tesla said the company is not aware of any accidents, injuries or deaths related to the issue.

The issue will be fixed through an over-the-air software update, and some customers will begin receiving the update as early as June 18, the NHTSA said. Owners will receive letters after Sept. 22, but can call Tesla at 877-798-3752. The company’s internal recall number is SB-24-00-012.
