San Francisco Giants trade power hitter to Atlanta Braves

Heading into the trade deadline, few had any idea what the San Francisco Giants were going to do as they were starting to get healthy for the first time all year, but they were still several games behind in the Wild Card race.

Normal procedure would seem to indicate that they would sell some of their assets, but after management spent a lot of money in the offseason to reshuffle this roster, some thought they might let things play out since jobs could be on the line if they don’t make the playoffs.

When they started playing better coming out of the All-Star break, punctuated by a four-game sweep last weekend, it looked like they were gaining momentum and would retain their players.

Well, things seem to have changed.

According to ESPN’s Jeff PassanThe Giants send Jorge Soler to the Atlanta Braves. Robert Murray from FanSided also adds that reliever Luke Jackson is also included in this deal.

The return has not been announced at the time of writing.

For San Francisco, this trade comes at an interesting time, considering he has started to come into his own in his last 15 games, going 18-for-55 with two home runs and eight RBIs. It appears they decided to sell high while the slugger was performing to maximize their return.

Soler was signed this offseason to a three-year, $42 million contract with hopes he would bring the power this team desperately lacked.

Instead, he got off to a poor start and looked like a flop before finding his current rhythm at the plate.

The Giants will reunite him with the Braves where he was a major part of their 2021 World Series-winning team when they acquired him at that deadline and won that World Series MVP.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area San Francisco said it is looking for a way to free up the bats of top prospect Marco Luciano, who has wreaked havoc in Triple-A.
