British police say children were killed in a knife attack

:: July 29, 2024

:: Southport, England

:: Serena Kennedy, Chief Constable of Merseyside Police

“My officers were called to a knife attack at an address in Southport at 11:47am this morning. When they arrived they were shocked to find that several people, many of them children, had been the victims of a brutal attack and had sustained serious injuries. It is believed that the children were involved in a Taylor Swift event at a dance school when the perpetrator entered the premises armed with a knife and began attacking the children inside. We believe that the injured adults bravely tried to protect the children who were attacked. As a mother and grandmother, I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and suffering that the families of the victims are going through at this moment.”

:: Colin Parry, eyewitness

“I called the police. At that point there were a lot of people on the phone because it was like a bomb had gone off, there were girls’ bodies everywhere. Me and one of my colleagues, James, took one of the girls out of the building. She didn’t look well at all, the poor child.”

Merseyside Police said the motive for the attack was unclear but they did not believe it was terrorism-related and they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the stabbings. The male suspect was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Police said armed officers arrested the suspect and seized a knife after being called to an address in Southport, north of Liverpool, at around 11:50am (10:50 GMT).
