Prosecutors said they were contacted by Hackensack police on Friday, July 26, about an alleged attempted sexual assault that occurred the previous evening at the Riverside Square Mall in Hackensack.

The investigation, according to prosecutors, “revealed that an unknown suspect followed the adult female victim into a women’s restroom at the mall, whereupon he pushed the victim to the ground and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim was able to fight off his attacker before calling 9-1-1.”

The suspect fled the scene but was captured on security surveillance footage.

Through their cooperation, detectives identified the suspect as Herbert and arrested him in Paramus on Friday.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail and awaited his initial appearance in the Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
