Chase involving young teens turns deadly for Westheimer

Police say the five boys involved were aged 12 to 13, including one who died at hospital after being found unconscious in the back seat.

HOUSTON– Police are investigating a chase involving young teens that turned deadly in west Houston Thursday evening.

According to Houston Police Departmentseveral children were in a stolen car and one was even behind the wheel.

Police said it started with a stolen car speeding in Richmond before ending up on Westheimer Road in the Westchase District. They later discovered that five older boys, aged 12 to 13, were in the car and one of them was killed.

Police responded to the scene of the accident around 10 p.m. Two officers were on their way to another call when HPD said they noticed a speeding car crash into another vehicle on Richmond Avenue, just west of South Kirkwood Road.

A chase ensued and police said the stolen car then crashed into another car this time on South Kirkwood Road.

That didn’t stop the children in the stolen vehicle. HPD said the driver then crashed into three other vehicles on Westheimer Road while trying to avoid a bus.

HPD said four young boys then jumped out of the car and started running.

“All suspects are aged between 12 and 13 years old. A total of five vehicles were struck by the suspect vehicle,” HPD Assist. » said Chief JL Anderson. “None of these citizens were transported.”

Anderson said two of the boys were taken to hospital with minor injuries, two others were arrested at the scene and the fifth boy, found unconscious in the back seat, later died.
