UPDATED: 2 people still in hospital after car and horse-drawn carriage crash in Deerfield; horse dies at scene | News

22.7., 14:15 hrs—The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office has released an update on the injuries sustained by those involved in the car crash.

“Both the driver of the vehicle, Chase Brewer, and Rebecca Hershberger, who was driving the horse-drawn carriage, have been released from Wynn Hospital. The other two occupants of the horse-drawn carriage are in stable condition at Upstate University Hospital,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.


22.7., 10 p.m.—Two children are in critical condition after the stroller they were in was hit by a car crash on Route 12 Monday evening.

It happened just before 6:30 a.m. north of the Glass Factory Road on-ramp in Deerfield.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Chase Brewer of Mohawk collided with a horse-drawn carriage driven by 19-year-old Rebecca Hershberger of Poland while attempting to pass a car.

He drove into the buggy from behind.

Wynn Hospital last reported that Hershberger was in critical but stable condition.

The two children, aged 17 and 9, were taken to Upstate Medical with serious injuries and are also in critical condition.

The horse that pulled the carriage died at the scene of the accident.

The crash is still under investigation.
