Houston’s New Saint Augustine Hotel Sets Opening Date With Bludorn Restaurant — Get a Sneak Peek at Montrose Marvel

BUnkhouse Hotels, the renowned Texas hotel group that has created a number of unique hotels in Austin, including the acclaimed Hotel Saint Cecilia and Hotel San José, is now accepting reservations for its first venture into Houston. Fans of the hotel group’s unique properties can make reservations at Houston’s newest boutique hotel, Hotel Saint Augustine, for stays beginning November 15 or later.

The new Houston hotel is located at 4110 Loretto, steps from the Menil Collection’s Drawing Institute in the heart of Montrose. Seventy-one guest rooms and suites are housed in five small, two-story buildings connected by bridges and open-air porches designed to blend seamlessly with the neighborhood’s residential character. The Saint Augustine hotel features four lushly landscaped interior courtyards and outdoor pathways winding through century-old oak trees.

As a bonus, the hotel’s first guests will receive a special booking code offering eager beavers a 20% discount, a daily breakfast credit for two, a complimentary suite upgrade and late check-out subject to availability.

Those familiar with Bunkhouse Hotels’ interesting approach to hotel design will understand Hotel Saint Augustine’s promotional materials describing the new hotel as having a “surreal design” that will “reflect Bunkhouse’s signature style while embracing the essence and culture of the vibrant city.”

The group tapped renowned Texas architectural firm Lake|Flato to design the new Houston hotel. Interiors were provided by Post Company, an award-winning design studio based in New York and Wyoming. Renowned Texas landscape architectural firm Ten Eyck was responsible for the wealth of native Texas plants that grace the property.

“Ten Eyck worked with the John Fairey Garden in Hempstead for several years,” a statement said, “to cultivate a collection of rare and native plants for the hotel’s gardens, including eyelash sage, saw palmetto and blue rabbit’s foot fern.”

Bunkhouse’s tradition of naming each hotel after a patron saint is brought into play with the Saint Augustine Hotel, whose name was inspired on several levels. Saint Augustine is the patron saint of printing and the proximity of the Menil Drawing Institute is foreshadowed, Augustus Chapman Allen was also a founder of Houston, Saint Augustine grass flourishes on lawns throughout the city, and the name is also “a nod to the month of August for the hazy, late-summer nostalgia it brings.”
