Rideshare driver charged with sexual abuse of single 12-year-old passenger | State news

PLANO, Texas — According to Plano police, a ride-sharing company employee was arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Robert Johnson III, a 31-year-old from Garland, was taken into custody on July 15 following an investigation by the Plano Police Department’s Special Victims Unit. On July 9, Johnson responded to a pickup call in Frisco, Texas, where he picked up an unaccompanied minor. Johnson allegedly drove off the road in the 4200 block of Legacy Drive and sexually assaulted the 12-year-old driver. The child reported the assault to his mother the next day and a police report was filed.

On July 12, Judge McGraw found there was sufficient probable cause to issue an arrest warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child. Johnson was arrested by the Plano Police Department’s Intelligence Unit and is currently being held at the Collin County Jail in McKinney.

Plano police emphasized their commitment to handling sexual assault cases and urged any additional victims to come forward. “We urge any additional victims to come forward and contact our SVU hotline at 972-941-2044 or [email protected],” police said. Police also thanked Frisco police for their cooperation in this case.

The agency urged the public to remain vigilant when using ride-sharing services and offered several safety tips, including sharing ride details with a trusted person, verifying the driver’s identity and sitting in the back seat.
