Five Sepco officials suspended

SUKKUR – Five senior employees of Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) have been suspended and an inquiry launched into their alleged poor performance. The public complaints against them included inefficiency and/or complicity in power theft. They are also accused of not collecting their payments from defaulters. The suspended employees include former executive engineer of operations department in Shikarpur, Imdadullah Unnar; his Moro colleague Habibullah Panhwar, sub-divisional officer of operations in Sukkur-I, Nisar Ahmed Shaikh; and his colleagues in Kashmore and Khairpur, Ghulam Yasin Khoso and Israr Ahmed Bajkani. Meanwhile, Zulfikar Wali – a well-known playwright, theatre director, artist and social media activist – who was critically injured in an attack allegedly carried out by his brother-in-law on July 6, died at the trauma centre here on Friday. On the complaint of Wali’s mother, an FIR (No. 116/2024) was filed against his brother-in-law Shan Ali Khuhawar under Sections 324 and 452 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Khuhawar was arrested on July 15.

It was alleged that the suspect hit Wali on the head with an iron rod while he was sleeping in his house in Yar Mohammed Colony under the jurisdiction of Waleed police station.

Wali’s Namaz-i-Janaza was offered in Baitul Maal Colony before his burial at his ancestral cemetery. A motive for Wali’s murder is yet to be ascertained.
