Mexican citizen arrested in Texas on multiple charges, extradition pending | State

FREER, Texas — A Mexican national was arrested in Freer early Saturday morning after a 911 call reported a suspicious man knocking on a resident’s door.

When Lt. Flores of the Freer Police Department arrived in the 100 block of South Sun Avenue, he noticed Christian Ruvalcaba Salas, a Mexican national who lived in Giddings, Texas, standing on the porch wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. According to the Freer Police Department, Salas was not known to the homeowners.

During the arrest attempt, Salas resisted arrest, which led to a physical altercation during which Lt. Flores lost radio contact with dispatch. Flores used his cell phone to call 9-1-1 to request additional assistance. Salas was eventually subdued and arrested.

Salas is charged with trespassing (Class A misdemeanor), resisting arrest/search/transport (Class A misdemeanor), unlawful carrying of a weapon (Class A misdemeanor), and assault on a police officer (second degree felony). A firearm was recovered from Salas at the scene.

A database check revealed that Salas had an arrest warrant in Mexico for child sexual abuse and was awaiting extradition, Freer police said.

The Freer Police Department thanked the United States Border Patrol Freer Station and the Duval County Sheriff’s Office for their immediate response and assistance. The department also reminded the public of the everyday dangers police face and urged vigilance in reporting suspicious activity.
