He was arrested by armed officers at Temple Meads station and will be taken to London for questioning later today.

Investigators had previously identified 34-year-old Colombian citizen Yostin Andres Mosquera as the wanted man.

Following the latest arrest this morning, no one else is currently being sought.

Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said: “This is a significant development in our investigation and I would like to thank the public for their support.”

“We understand the concerns of the local communities in Bristol and London and officers will remain in the Clifton and Shepherd’s Bush areas over the coming days to reassure those affected by this tragic incident.”

Scotland Yard said the latest remains, found at an address in Shepherd’s Bush on Friday, are believed to be linked to those found in the two Clifton Suspension Bridge incidents on Wednesday.

They confirmed that the victims were two males, but formal identification is still pending.

A 36-year-old man who was arrested in Greenwich on Friday in connection with the investigation has since been released without charge, police said.

On Friday afternoon, a helicopter was seen circling over Scotts Road in Shepherd’s Bush, where officers had cordoned off an area of rubbish bins under a high-rise building. A private ambulance arrived at 6.30pm.

Police were first called at 11.57pm on Wednesday after a man was seen displaying “suspicious behaviour” on Bristol’s famous bridge.

Witnesses described how the suspect, who had arrived by taxi, was confronted after blood oozed from one of the “shabby” suitcases.

According to reports, the safety railing may have prevented him from throwing the heavy boxes overboard and into the ravine 7.5 meters below.

Although officers arrived less than 10 minutes after the alarm was raised, the suspect fled towards Leigh Woods, leaving the suitcase behind. A second one was found nearby a short time later.

The taxi driver is assisting the officers in their investigation.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge, a listed landmark spanning the Avon Gorge, was designed by the famous Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864.
