Gang rape: Two persons get life sentence for gang rape of woman in Umreth in 2020 | Vadodara News

Vadodara: An Anand court has sentenced two residents of Umreth town to life imprisonment for gang raping a woman with learning disabilities. Additional sessions judge Tejas R Desai convicted Shailesh Rawal (38) and Suresh Bodana (35) and found them guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 366, 376 (D) and 376 (2) (L) (rape of a mentally challenged woman), additional public prosecutor AS Jadeja told TOI on Friday. The offence was committed on March 19, 2020, when the three accused – Shailesh, Suresh and one Sandeep Rawal – promised to take the woman to a hospital. The trio hired a rickshaw and took the victim to a remote place near a canal, where they tricked the rickshaw driver into driving away with Sandeep. The two men raped the woman and one of them took photographs of her using his mobile phone. When the woman’s husband and son came to know that the accused had taken them to that particular place, they went there and found her being raped by the two. An offence was registered at Umreth police station. “A total of 19 statements were recorded and presented in court. These included statements of the victim, her husband, her son, the driver, the doctors who conducted the medical examination and eyewitnesses,” Jadeja said. “The FSL report of the photographs taken by the accused was also presented, apart from DNA samples of the two accused,” he said. “The third accused – Sandeep Rawal – was acquitted on the benefit of doubt,” Jadeja said.
