Elderly couple attacked by gang, woman killed | Madurai News

Madurai: An unidentified armed gang brutally attacked a couple at a bus stand near Melur in Madurai district on Thursday, murdering the 57-year-old woman while her husband sustained injuries. According to police, the couple are identified as 55-year-old Papparammal and her 60-year-old husband Alagu. The couple, who were selling brooms made of coconut leaves, had reportedly taken shelter at Kachirayanpatti bus stand. However, the gang attacked them with sharp weapons on Thursday morning. Papparammal died on the spot while Alagu sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital. Melur police are investigating. The motive behind the attack has not been ascertained yet. In another incident, an unidentified woman aged around 45-50 was found murdered near a coconut grove at Virganur in Madurai on Wednesday. Local residents alerted the local VAO. The body was found with bleeding injuries. The Silaiman police investigated.
