Teacher spends ‘hours on phone’ and is suspended | News from India

An assistant teacher at a public school in Sambhal was suspended after a surprise inspection by District Magistrate Rajendra Pansiya on Wednesday found that he had “spent hours on his mobile phone during class time and had not properly checked students’ exercise books”.

According to the officials, Pansiya found teacher Priyam Goel using a mobile phone while playing games. Speaking to TOI, the teacher said, “I asked him if he regularly uses the apps ‘Diksha’ and ‘Read Along’, which the government has prescribed for easier learning. When I did not get a satisfactory answer, I asked for the hourly details and found that the teacher was using the mobile phone during class time.” He added, “Then I started checking the students’ copies and found glaring errors. The teacher had marked all the answers correctly without even correcting the errors. This was a gross dereliction of duty.” Despite several attempts, Goel could not be reached for comment.
