Nigerian bodybuilder’s wife charged with murder in Houston

HOUSTON — Houston police have issued a murder warrant for a woman accused of killing her husband while her two sons were home.

It happened in the spring, but it wasn’t until this weekend that his charge was upgraded from aggravated assault to murder.

The victim was a popular and promising bodybuilder.

His longtime friend and fitness coach, Christopher Alejandro, told KHOU 11 News that Michael Chidozie, 26, was on life support before ultimately dying from his injuries.

The news of his death shocked many in the bodybuilding community, Alejandro said. They hoped he would pull through.

“When I heard he died, I was surprised, because his body is very strong, and I thought he would wake up,” Alejandro said.

Alejandro said Chidozie had immigrated to Houston from Nigeria, starting a family here before his death.

In March, investigators said his wife, Keaiira Chidozie, 28, shot Michael multiple times in their Yorktown Street apartment.

Apparently, an argument escalated between the two men, leading to the deadly shooting.

The couple’s two children were not injured in the shooting.

Michael’s trainer said many organizations in the bodybuilding world have released tribute posts to remember him.

“When people finally found out that he was gone, one thing I really loved was the whole bodybuilding community came together, Iron Magazine, all the bodybuilding federations. All the federations posted messages of rest in peace,” Alejandro said.

Alejandro said they even held a charity event at his gym in College Station to raise money for Michael’s two young boys.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has charged Keaiira Chidozie with murder, saying she intentionally shot and killed her husband.
