How Streetz 94.5 Atlanta’s Solo Is Moving Culture Forward

Solo, Director of Programming and Promotions at Streetz 94.5 Atlanta, is thrilled to be a part of one of the largest Black-owned syndicated radio programs. Solo and Streetz 94.5 Atlanta are all about pushing the culture forward, and they do it from morning to night.

Solo spoke with deployment about what he’s learned as a promoter and shared advice he would give to people in the music and radio world.

What have you learned as a promoter?

Hard work pays off and so does how you treat people. A lot of the success and the places I’ve been able to achieve is because of my career as a promoter and how I’ve treated people. It’s cool to hear people run up to me and say, “I remember you,” not run up to me ready to fight. They’re really running up to me and telling me a memory, an event, or something I’ve done, and we laugh about it and keep moving forward. It’s awesome that it got me here and it’s prepared me for here.

What advice would you give to people in the music and radio world?

The biggest things I’ve learned in my career are that showing up is half the work and don’t be afraid of the work. The money will come as long as you’re showing up and doing the work that’s required of those who pay you regularly. My biggest asset is my work ethic. I’m showing up and I treat my business like it’s my own. Whether I’m an employee or an executive, or I’ve been a partner in some situations, or an investor in some situations, I’ve treated it like it’s what matters most to me, and I think that’s what’s gotten me to where I am because people respect that. People call you and give you opportunities based on the fact that they’ve seen you and they’ve dealt with you and they respect what you do and your energy. That’s what’s paved the way for me during this time. I always tell people to show up, give 100% and do it consistently. If you do that, you will get where you want to go.

What are some things you’ve observed in the culture recently that people in the community appreciate?

I think there’s a lot of individuality, podcasting, and giving your opinion on things. Viral moments of accidental questions. I know dating men or women and the topic of dating has been around forever, but the different cultural approaches to dating are really interesting and different these days.
