According to current information, the deceased was a woman. The circumstances of her death are unclear. Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and state investigators are currently involved in the investigation into the fire and the woman’s death.

From the outside, there is hardly any damage to the house other than a hole in the roof, but the damage inside the house is “significant,” say fire inspectors.

The woman’s body was found in the house, but not near the apparent location of the fire.

“Neighbors came to the house, knocked on the door and tried to find out if anyone was home at the time,” said Arapahoe County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Ginger Delgado.

The Arapahoe County Coroner will determine the cause of death. Homicide detectives are conducting the investigation, but the sheriff’s office said it is not yet a homicide. As of Monday evening, the victim’s identity has not been released.

A neighbor behind the house noticed the fire first.

“My mother-in-law was outside and saw smoke coming out of the roof,” Daniel Enger told CBS News Colorado. “My wife immediately called the fire department and then my daughter and her boyfriend went around the corner and started banging on the door to alert people that there was a fire in the house.”

No Answer.

The couple listed as owners of the home in the Sky Ranch development have lived in the house for about a year, neighbors said. But in recent months, the woman has been living alone, and neighbors and friends told us the couple had separated.

According to court records, the husband was arrested on the property in April for assaulting his wife. He pleaded guilty on Friday, received three months’ probation and was sentenced to community service.

No arrests were made and no one was taken into custody.
