At least eight people, including children, have died after floods and landslides in the mountainous regions of southwestern Kyrgyzstan, reports Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported on June 30, citing authorities.

A state of emergency has been declared in Nookat district following heavy rains in the region that are forecast to continue until July 2.

A popular holiday resort, Abshir Ata, was badly affected, local broadcaster Turmush reported.

More than 1,300 holidaymakers were evacuated from the area, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
