Woman raped during outing with husband in Khilkhet, 7 people arrested

Police arrested seven people in the capital district of Khilkhet on Friday in connection with the rape of a woman.

Enamul Haque Khandaker, Investigation Inspector of Khilkhet police station, told The Business Standard that the woman was gang raped on Friday evening while she was out with her husband in Khilkhet area.

The inspector quoted the victim as saying, “Seven persons kidnapped the woman and her husband from Banarupa area in Khilkhet. Four of the miscreants raped them. Later, they demanded 70,000 taka ransom from the victim’s husband for their release.

“The husband left the area to collect the money and called the national emergency number 999 for assistance. Police quickly responded to the abduction scene and rescued the woman at around 4:00am on Saturday (June 29).”

The inspector said the victim had filed a complaint against six people under the Prevention of Oppression of Women and Children Act.

Police have arrested seven people in connection with the case, he said.

He continued: “The arrested people have initially confessed to their involvement in the incident. They will be brought to court tomorrow.”
