NYPD releases sketch of man wanted in connection with sexual assault in Central Park

By Gus Saltonstall

Police on Thursday evening released a sketch of a man wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a woman in Central Park earlier this week, the NYPD said.

A 21-year-old woman was sunbathing in the Great Hill section of Central Park near West 104th Street and West Drive around 1:30 p.m. when a man ran toward her, exposing himself, police said. The woman tried to run away from the man, but he grabbed her from behind, the NYPD said.

“She was able to fight the man off and he fled south,” added John Chell, chief of NYPD patrol. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital.

Here is the sketch of the suspect that police released Thursday evening.

The suspect, whom police describe as: “in his 30s, black, approximately 6 feet tall, medium build, curly hair, wearing a light shirt and shorts,” had not been arrested as of Friday morning, 9:00 a.m.
