Accident in Ladson area is being investigated after one person died

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating a crash that left one person dead.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday between two vehicles on Highway 78 near Wisteria Street in Ladson.

Initial investigations revealed that the driver of the first car was turning left from Wisteria Street onto Highway 78 when he collided with the driver of the second car, who was already on the highway.

The first vehicle overturned on impact and the passenger was partially ejected.

The second vehicle was forced off the road and into a ditch, trapping the driver.

The passenger of the first vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Unit is investigating the accident.

This section of Highway 78 was closed for about two and a half hours.

The Charleston County Coroner has not yet released the identity of the victim.
