Game in Berlin interrupted as Pegula and Gauff fight for the last place

After an exceptional day of action in West Kensington, Lorenzo Musetti will play against Tommy Paul in the final of the Queen’s Championship.

In the first match of the afternoon, Italian Musetti won a three-set match against Jordan Thompson 3:6, 6:3, 3:6 and thus secured his place in the final on Sunday.

After winning the first set, Thompson fought back and took the match to a deciding set. Despite fending off five break points in the eighth set, the Australian eventually lost and Musetti secured his place in his first grass-court final.

Later in the afternoon, Paul prevailed in straight sets in an all-American match, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) against Sebastian Korda to secure his first meeting with the Italian.

Paul, 27, quickly broke his opponent in the second game and was unable to recover from his slow start despite Korda breaking in the seventh game.

The second set was smooth sailing, with both players exchanging break points, but a faulty performance from Korda allowed Paul to finish the contest with relative ease and become the first American finalist at Queen’s since 2010.

Data debriefing: Musetti stands

Musetti remained unbeaten against his Australian opponent, having won their previous meeting in Adelaide in January in straight sets. The Italian also won 45 of his 62 first serve points, a success rate of 73%.

After three consecutive losses to Korda, Paul has now won two of his last three meetings with his compatriot. However, his opponent has outperformed him in first serve points, winning 74% to Paul’s 62%.
