Motorcyclist killed in accident in Van Buren County

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Michigan – A motorcyclist was killed Monday when he crashed into a tree lying across the road in Van Buren County.

Officers responded to the area of ​​48 1/2 Street in Columbia Township after a caller reported a fallen tree across the street and an unresponsive man in the rubble.

According to investigators, the man, who was riding a motorcycle, was aware of the fallen tree but was unable to stop. According to officials, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified as a 38-year-old man, but his identity is not being released at this time.

While searching for identification, officers found two grams of methamphetamine and a pipe in the man’s pocket. Officers say it is unclear if the man was under the influence at the time of the accident.
