Man dies after serious incident in sports club

A man in his 40s died from his injuries on Sunday following a “serious incident” at a sports club in Hertfordshire.

Police were called to the car park of the Ickleford Sports and Recreation Club on Chambers Lane, Hitchin, at around 10.30pm BST.

The nature of the incident has not yet been disclosed, but police investigations are ongoing.

Hertfordshire Police said a 21-year-old man from Hitchin had been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

The Ickleford Sports and Recreation Club was closed following the incident.

The club posted on Facebook: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are closed until further notice. Please be patient as we wait for a re-opening. We will post it on the page. The date is unknown.”
