Man who raped woman in her sleep claimed he was also asleep

A man raped a woman in her sleep and then claimed he was asleep too. Luke Carr, 29, carried out the attack in a house in Peterborough in 2021.

When the woman woke up, she felt bruises and confronted him, but he claimed it was unintentional. The woman confided in a friend and went to be examined.

She then informed the police and Carr was arrested. During questioning, he repeated his statement, but pleaded guilty to rape after his DNA was identified on the victim.

Carr, of Tilton Court, Peterborough, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday (June 14).

DC Rosie McKenzie said: “I am glad that Carr has pleaded guilty and the victim has not had to go through the trauma of reliving what happened in court. She has shown tremendous courage in seeing this case through to the end and I am pleased that it has now reached its rightful conclusion.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim of any form of sexual abuse to report it to us. We will always treat you with the utmost sensitivity and respect. Reporting a sexual assault or rape can be extremely difficult. We take all reports seriously and have trained staff to support victims through the process.”

If you or someone close to you has been the victim of a serious sexual crime, support is available on the police’s special website for cases of rape and sexual assault.
