7 men arrested after undercover operation by Special Investigations Unit in Cumberland County

BEHIND FIRE DEPARTMENT FRIDAY. GOOD MORNING AND THANKS FOR BEING WITH US. I’M STAR CONNOR HERE WITH DYLAN BUTLER AND DYLAN. IT’S GOING TO BE ONE OF THOSE HOT DAYS, RIGHT? ONE OF THOSE HOT SUMMER DAYS. YES. YOU’RE EXACTLY RIGHT. THE SUN IS ALREADY SHINING BRIGHT. JUST LIKE ON THE SCREEN BEHIND US. YES, A LIVE VIEW OVER WINSTON-SALEM RECREATING THAT IMAGE THERE. ALTHOUGH NOT QUITE AS PRETTY, IT’S STILL A BEAUTIFUL CAROLINA BLUE SKY. YOU CAN SEE IT’S REALLY GETTING WARMER AS WE GET OUT AND ABOUT FOR THE REST OF THE MORNING. IN WINSTON IT’S ALREADY 76. IT’S JUST AFTER 8:00 AM SATURDAY MORNING. DEW POINTS HAVE ALSO RISEN, BACK TO THE 15S, SO IT FEELS MORE HUMID OUTSIDE THAT FRONT. AS I MENTIONED THIS MORNING, THE TEMPERATURE WIND HAS CANCELLED SOUTH OF THE AREA, AND THAT HAS CHANGED OUR WINDS. YESTERDAY THEY WERE COMING FROM THE SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST. TODAY THEY’RE COMING FROM THE NORTHEAST. THAT’S A LITTLE COOLER WIND DIRECTION FOR US. NOW. DON’T GET TOO HAPPY. IT’S STILL A WARM, WARM SATURDAY WITH HIGHS IN THE 30S IN THE AFTERNOON BUT A NORTH EAST BREEZE MAY BRING SOME SLIGHTLY LOWER DEW POINTS AND HUMIDITY SO IT MAY BE A LITTLE MORE COMFORTABLE OUTSIDE ESPECIALLY IN THE SHADE. THIS AFTERNOON WE’LL BE AT 27 DEGREES UNTIL LUNCHTIME AND OVER 30 DEGREES LATER. LOTS OF SUNSHINE TODAY. I EXPECT THE AREA TO STAY MOSTLY DRY SO IF YOU ARE OUT LATER TODAY MAKE SURE TO DRINK LOTS OF DRINKS. POOL ALL AROUND THE LAKE. ALSO, ALL GREAT THINGS TO DO WITH DAD. AFTER ALL, IT’S FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND. WE’LL TALK MORE ABOUT THE FATHER’S DAY FORECAST, AND I’LL ALSO DO A PREVIEW AND TALK ABOUT WHEN THE 30 DEGREES ARE COMING BACK. COMING UP. ALL RIGHT. THANKS, DYLAN. IT’S 802 NOW, AND A SERGEANT WITH THE DAVIE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS BEING SUED THIS MORNING WITH SERIOUS CHARGES. THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS THE SERGEANT IS LINKED TO TWO ACCIDENTS, INCLUDING A HIT AND RUN. OUR CHRIS PETERSEN LOOKS THROUGH THE DARK COURT DOCUMENTS, COMING TO US FROM THE DAVIE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE. SLURRED SPEECH AND GLASSY EYES. THOSE ARE JUST SOME OF THE DESCRIPTIONS IN THESE COURT DOCUMENTS REGARDING HANNAH WHITTINGTON. ACCORDING TO THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL, SHE CAUSED TWO ACCIDENTS ON TUESDAY EVENING. ALL WHILE DRIVING. INVESTIGATORS SAY THE FIRST ACCIDENT HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER 9:30 ON TUESDAY EVENING WHEN THE PICKUP TRUCK WHITTINGTON WAS DRIVING COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER TRUCK ON HIGHWAY 158 AT MILLING ROAD. NONE OF THE DRIVERS WERE INJURED IN THIS ACCIDENT. POLICE OFFICERS SAY WHITTINGTON DROVE AWAY FROM THE SCENE AND HIT ANOTHER TRUCK ABOUT A MILE AWAY. BOTH DRIVERS WERE INJURED IN THIS COLLISION. WHITTINGTON WAS ARRESTED BY THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL, ACCORDING TO COURT DOCUMENTS. THE ARRESTED POLICE OFFICERS REPORTED THAT WHITTINGTON HAD RED, GLASSY EYES, SLURRED SPEECH, AND WAS HAVING TROUBLE. ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTIONS, SHE WAS TAKEN A BREATHABILITY TEST WHICH PRODUCED A .33, MORE THAN FOUR TIMES OVER THE LEGAL LIMIT. WE ALSO KNOW FROM RECORDS THAT WHITTINGTON WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL AND PROVIDED A BLOOD SAMPLE, BUT THOSE RESULTS ARE NOT RECORDED. DAVIE COUNTY SHERIFF JD HARTMAN CONFIRMED TO WXII THAT WHITTINGTON WORKS IN THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE’S CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION. SHERIFF HARTMAN INFORMED US THAT WHITTINGTON WAS OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL AND WAS NOT DRIVING A SHERIFF’S OFFICE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENTS. SHERIFF HARTMAN HAS CONFIRMED WHITTINGTON HAS BEEN SUSPENDED PENDING INTERNAL REVIEW. WE DO NOT KNOW THE CONDITION OF THE DRIVER INVOLVED IN THE SECOND ACCIDENT INVOLVING WHITTINGTON. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THERE IS NO BOOKING PHOTO OF WHITTINGTON AVAILABLE AS SHE WAS NEVER TAKEN TO DAVIE COUNTY PRISON. HER NEXT COURT DATE IS SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 2 IN DAVIE COUNTY. I’M CHRIS PETERSEN, WXII 12 NEWS AND IN OTHER NEWS, A MAN HAS DIED AFTER SUFFERING A MEDICAL ATTACK IN A POLICE CAR, ACCORDING TO WINSTON-SALEM POLICE. THIS ALL RESULTS FROM A TRAFFIC STOP ON THURSDAY MORNING NEAR SHERATON STREET AND LEO STREET. POLICE SAY THEY STOPPED 42-YEAR-OLD JACO SHULER FOR A TRAFFIC VIOLATION. THEY ASKED SHULER TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE HE WAS BEHAVIORALLY ERRORS AND EVIDENCE POINTS TO A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE VIOLATION. AUTHORITIES SAY. SHULER FOLLOWED THE WORDINGS AND THEN REFUSED TO PUT HIS HANDS BEHIND HIS BACK. OFFICERS FINALLY ATTACKED HIM AND HE BREAKED A WINDOW INSIDE THE POLICE CAR AND KICKED HIM IN. OFFICERS CALLED EMERGENCY WHEN HE STOPPED RESPONDING TO QUESTIONS. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HE DIED YESTERDAY. THE SBI IS INVESTIGATING THIS DEATH AND THE POLICE OFFICERS INVOLVED HAVE BEEN PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES, WHICH IS STANDARD PROCEDURE AND THE SISTER OF A WINSTON-SALEM MAN KILLED MORE THAN A DECADE AGO SAYS SHE CAN NOW REST IN PEACE. DWIGHT SMITH WAS FOUND DEAD IN HIS NORTH JACKSON AVENUE HOME IN 2010. WINSTON-SALEM POLICE ANNOUNCE THAT THEY ISSUED AN ARREST WARRANT THIS WEEK CHARGING CHRISTOPHER ALLEN WILSON WITH MURDER. I NOW KNOW DWIGHT IS AT PEACE, I KNOW HE IS, AND I KNOW I AM AT PEACE. IT WAS A FEELING OF INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE BECAUSE I FELT LIKE HEY, FINALLY SOMEONE CAN BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR WHAT HE DID TO DWIGHT. THE SUSPECT STILL HAS TO BE EXPORTED BACK TO NORTH CAROLINA FROM LAS VEGAS. IT’S UNCLEAR WHEN THAT WILL TAKE PLACE. GLEN SAYS SHE PLANS
