Police say the driver has been arrested in the fatal hit-and-run accident on Main Street in East Haven

Officers had been searching for a dark-colored sedan that they initially believed was responsible for the crash, said Captain Joseph Murgo, a spokesman for East Haven police. He later said surveillance video showed the vehicle was actually a white compact car.

Officers found the compact car at the Autumn Ridge apartment complex on Gerrish Avenue and arrested the driver, Murgo said.

The fatal accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. near the KFC at 650 Main Street, Murgo said.

As of Saturday morning, police had not identified the victim or the person arrested.
