11 people arrested as part of a police operation against theft

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that 11 people were arrested during a two-day operation to combat theft.

The Texas Department of Law Enforcement said special agents from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) conducted a joint operation to combat thefts at local stores in Amarillo.


The operation involved officers from the Texas Highway Patrol, THP canine units, and the Potter and Randall County Sheriff’s Offices. As part of the joint operation, 11 people were arrested and 12 others were charged with various theft offenses.

The list of people and their respective charges according to DPS:

  • Lawrence Baca44, of Amarillo – Theft of Property – Felony – Remanded to Potter County Jail
  • Jorge Ortiz Jr31, of Amarillo – Theft of Property – Misdemeanor – Remanded to Randall County Jail
  • Kevin Owen44, of Amarillo – possession of a controlled substance, unlawful carrying of a weapon by a felon – felony – booked into Randall County Jail
  • Traevin Blount24, of Amarillo – Attempted Escape on Foot – Misdemeanor – Remanded to Randall County Jail
  • Jacob Schröder46, of Amarillo – Possession of a Controlled Substance – 0.62 grams of Fentanyl – Felony – Booked into Potter County Jail
  • Heather Mayes41, of Amarillo – Possession of a Controlled Substance – 2.37 grams of Meth – Felony – Booked into Potter County Jail
  • Wendy Harlin48, of Amarillo – Possession of a Controlled Substance – 0.2 grams of Fentanyl – Felony – Booked into Potter County Jail
  • Sarah Wedgworth37, of Amarillo – Three warrants for theft of property – booked into Potter County Jail
  • Susan Kyle35, of Amarillo – Theft of Property – Misdemeanor – Remanded to Potter County Jail
  • Alexander De La O29, – Theft of Property – Misdemeanor – Remanded to Randall County Jail
  • Jace Williams20, of Amarillo – Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon by a Felon (Stolen), Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of Marijuana – 1.4 pounds – All Felonies – Remanded to Potter County Jail

According to DPS, law enforcement seized $19,759 worth of stolen property during the two-day joint operation.
