Steve Albini, noise rock pioneer and “In Utero” engineer, dead at 61

Steve Albini, the noise rock pioneer in Big Black and Shellac, who also helped create some of the greatest alternative rock albums of all time – Nirvana’s In utero and Pixies’ Surfer Rosa among them – died at the age of 61.

Employees at Albini’s Electrical Audio Recording confirmed this Rolling Stone that Albini died on Tuesday evening, although no further details were released.
