Philippine Kalayaan Houston to Host Free Community Event Celebrating Philippine Independence Day

HOUSTON – The Houston community is invited to come together and celebrate the 126th anniversary of Philippine independence and national identity with a special event.

Kalayaan 2024 is a FREE celebration featuring the best in Filipino cuisine, art, music, dance and entertainment.

The Houston event is a partnership with the Philippine Consulate General in Houston.

Kalayaan commemorates the declaration of Philippine independence from Spanish rule on June 12, 1898. It also marks the end of more than 300 years of Spanish colonization.

This event is significant because it helps foster a sense of national pride and unity among Filipinos and serves as a reminder of the country’s rich history and cultural heritage.

But we don’t just celebrate Kalayaan here in the United States

Overseas Filipino communities also celebrate Kalayaan, strengthening their bond with the homeland and fostering a sense of unity and identity among Filipinos around the world.

Consul Gilbert Segarra of the Philippine Consulate in Houston and Dr. Clemente Logronio, President of the Philippine Kalayaan Houston stopped by “Houston Life” to discuss Kalayaan 2024 and what it means for the Filipino community in Houston.

Kalayaan 2024 will take place on Saturday, June 15 at the Fort Bend Epicenter from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The festival also attracts Filipino celebrities like this year’s special guest, Gary Valenciano.
