AFR: 1 person died after being swept away by fast-flowing water

The Albuquerque Fire Department responded to reports of several people in the water around 3 p.m. on Sunday

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Albuquerque Fire Department responded to reports of multiple people in the water around 3 p.m. Sunday. One person died in the fast-flowing current, and emergency responders rescued two others at separate locations.

22 AFR units responded to reports to their assigned locations in the Arroyo system after emergency calls reported two people in the water near Rachel and Tramway, also known as the Box Diversion Channel.

Shortly thereafter, another call came in about a third victim trapped on a barricade in the middle of the Arroyo in Wyoming.

Ultimately, one person died at the Box Diversion Channel. The third victim in Wyoming was rescued by firefighters.

AFR reminds everyone that while a storm may seem small and far away, arroyos can fill quickly and drain water even faster.
