Schoolgirl raped after woman helped duo sell liquor; 2 arrested | Chennai News

CHENNAI: A 15-year-old schoolgirl was raped by two men at a birthday party in Saligramam last month after they laced her drink with alcohol with the help of a woman. The crime came to light on Friday when the girl suffered from stomach pain and told her sister about the attack. Acting on a complaint from the girl’s family, police on Sunday arrested the woman, Pratisha Akira, a junior artiste in the film industry, and her boyfriend Somesh, a college student in his 20s. The other accused, Williams, who is also in his 20s, is wanted.

Police said the girl, a Class 11 student, met Pratisha at a cafe in Anna Nagar and they became friends over time. Last month, Akira invited the girl to her birthday party at her apartment in Saligramam.

At the party, Akira, Somesh and Williams drugged the girl’s drink and she became unconscious after drinking it. Later, Somesh and Williams raped her.

When the girl woke up in the morning, she realised that she had been raped. Police said Pratisha threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident.

Search for third defendant continues
Pratisha warned the teenager that her friends would harm her if she reported the matter to the police.

The girl remained silent for days, but on Friday she felt a stomachache and told her older sister about the attack. She was then taken to hospital for a medical examination. Her family filed a complaint with the police.

Officials of WPS (All Women Police Station) Virugambakkam A have registered a case and are conducting investigation.

After the rape was confirmed, the police arrested Pratisha and Somesh and remanded them in custody.

Police have launched a manhunt for Williams.
