Emma Watson speaks out about people who are obsessed with their sexuality

Emma Watson is many things – a great actress, a graduate of Brown University, a UN goodwill ambassador, a staunch feminist and a champion for gender equality – but there are apparently many people who focus on only one aspect of their lives: their sexuality.

It seems that every time Watson gives a hint that she is a grown woman, the world freaks out. Everyone has fallen in love with Watson like Hermione did in the Harry Potter movies that any reference to her as a sexual person becomes a REALLY BIG DEAL. Frankly, she’s had enough of it.

When the trailer for her upcoming film Colonia was released, a news channel focused on the split second of footage showing Watson in bed with her co-star and published an article under the headline “Emma Watson indulges in passionate behavior with Daniel Brühl as they roll around on bed.”

Um, what? We’re actually a little confused because that was definitely not our impression from the movie trailers, which you can see here and here.

Emma Watson didn’t understand what all the fuss was about either. In an interview with The Times, she talked about how frustrating it was that people were so obsessed with the film’s love scenes. Watson said: “Yes, three and a half seconds of nudity that wasn’t particularly risqué. It’s deeply upsetting… I’m 26 now. I’ve been in 15 films in total and it shouldn’t be risqué or horrible for me to kiss someone else, but I think that’s going to be the case for a long time. There are a lot of advantages to being part of this franchise (Harry Potter) and playing this role for a long time, but there are inevitably obstacles and this is one of them.”

Sigh.

We loved Watson as Hermione, but we also loved her as a person. She’s a talented actress. A grown woman. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with women being sexual. Actually, *news* it’s a totally normal thing. No big deal at all.

Of course, Watson wants to try out other roles. Let’s let her do that, OK?
