Violence forces another venue to close in Buffalo, New York

The entire 716 area has been known for many years for its nightlife. As one of the few places in the entire country where last call is at 4 a.m., Buffalo has been home to several clubs that have enjoyed good reputations for years.

Some of these clubs have been able to achieve almost legendary status among partygoers.

However, in recent years people have complained about the nightlife in the area as options and venues have diminished and violence on our streets has increased.

Just a few months ago, one of Western New York’s premier nightclubs was shut down by city officials after a series of violent events occurred in and around the venue. Now it appears the violence has closed the doors of another popular venue. in Buffalo.

Luxor Steak and Lobster to be shut down by City of Buffalo

Early in the morning of Sunday, May 28, 2024, Dairus Spates, 42, was rushed to Erie County Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds that ultimately led to his death. According to a report from WIVB-TV, the Buffalo Police Department says Spates was shot just outside of Luxor Steak and Lobster on Main Street in Buffalo’s University Heights neighborhood.

Since the shooting, Buffalo police have forced the closure of the restaurant and nightclub.

Speaking with WKBW-TV, Rasheed Wyatt, Buffalo Common Council member for the University District, said this type of violence does not typically occur in this part of the city and is confident the area is safe.

Since the restaurant was closed, many restaurant patrons are denouncing the fact that a bar-restaurant on Hertel Avenue had a man killed inside their establishment and has since been able to reopen even though the city their issued a cease and desist notice. There was another shooting at a popular bar on Elmwood Ave in the Elmwood Village area of ​​Buffalo where three men were shot, but they were allowed to remain open.

WKBW-TV also reported on what happened in the Free Luxor movement, as several Luxor supporters called on the city of Buffalo to allow Luxor to reopen, while also pointing out other situations in the city where similar situations have occurred and those locations have been allowed to remain open.

Just like other sites in Buffalo, we’ll have to wait and see what the local government chooses to do.
