Illegal alien and rapist arrested in Maine on Iowa warrants after Canada deported him

An illegal immigrant from Congo was arrested at the Maine-Canada border last month and is being held without bail in the Somerset County Jail while prosecutors seek his extradition to Iowa on warrants related to a sexual assault conviction.

Eric R. Ngrimpa, 36, was turned over to the custody of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) dropped him off at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Jackman Station on May 29, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The RCMP told a deputy that there was an arrest warrant for Ngirimpa in Iowa for a sexual assault conviction, which also led to the revocation of his Canadian visa.

After confirming the valid arrest warrant from Iowa, the deputy arrested Ngirimpa and charged him with “fugitive from justice.”

Ngrimpa, whose last known residence was in Quebec, is on Iowa’s sex offender registry since he was convicted in 2016 of assaulting a woman with intent to sexually assault her.

According to media reports from Iowa, Ngrimpa was charged with third-degree sexual abuse in 2015, which could have carried a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Ngirimpa is currently being held in the Somerset County Jail on probation and without bail.

Bail for the accused fugitive was set at $50,000 cash.

His next court date is scheduled for June 28, 2024, in Somerset County Unified Criminal Court.

The Somerset County District Attorney’s Office is working with Iowa authorities to obtain a governor’s warrant for Ngirimpa’s extradition to Iowa.

In addition, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a detention order against him, meaning he will be deported once the U.S. criminal proceedings are completed.

According to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Ngirimpa is originally from the Republic of Congo.
