Janesville police continue investigation on North Washington Street after suspect fires shots at officers | News

A message was sent out to the public around 3 a.m. on Tuesday alerting them to an incident near the intersection of West Court Street and Washington Street.



JANESVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) — No police officers were taken under fire by a suspect in Janesville on Tuesday.

According to Janesville police, officers were speaking with the suspect when he fired several shots at the officers. The officers were not physically injured by the shots, police said.

A message was sent out to the public around 3 a.m. on Tuesday alerting them to an incident near the intersection of West Court Street and Washington Street.

The JPD SWAT team was on site from about 4 a.m. to about 11:30 a.m.

The Janesville Police Department is assisted by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office. The JPD SWAT team is assisted by the Beloit/Bearcat SWAT team and the Dane County Bearcat.

Police said in an update Tuesday afternoon that the situation was under control and West Court Street was reopened to traffic. North Washington Street remains closed with police presence.

The investigation is still ongoing. The public is asked to avoid the area.

JPD plans to provide additional information at a later date.
