Man dies in accident at construction site with child in car in Carroll County

BALTIMORE – A Carroll County man was killed in a crash at a construction site Friday night while his 7-year-old son was in the car, state police said.

According to police, 41-year-old Geoffrey Brittingham of Hampstead failed to stop at a construction site during construction of the North Branch Patapsco River bridge in Westminster and crashed into the back of an excavator and a dump truck.

Brittingham died at the scene of the accident and the child was taken to hospital for treatment.

The long-term construction site was closed at the time of the accident and no further injuries were reported, police said.

Police advise drivers that the MD 91 bridge will be closed for an extended period of time. The detour route goes via MD 30 and MD 140.

The Maryland State Police Accident Team is investigating.
