Summer Wednesday, VIPIR 6 ALERT DAY Thursday

Update from Tuesday evening: It was a wonderfully warm day throughout the CSRA with lots of sunshine! Augusta Bush Field officially reached 89 degrees. If you like the summer weather, you’ll like tomorrow! We expect more sunshine and high temperatures in the low 90s! It hasn’t been 90 degrees since last September, so this would be the warmest day in months. Our pattern changes early Thursday as a cold front approaches from the west. We will watch as a complex of showers and storms develops throughout the afternoon. Due to the warming of the day and the humid atmosphere, there is a risk of strong to severe thunderstorms. The biggest threats are damaging winds and large hail. Secondary threats include localized flooding and an isolated tornado. It will dry out briefly on Thursday evening before another round of showers and storms arrive on Friday morning and continue into the evening. This round doesn’t look as severe as Thursday’s, but we need to keep an eye on the possibility of severe weather. The good news is that Mother’s Day weekend is looking fantastic with lots of sunshine! Temperatures will also be much cooler, with highs only reaching the upper 70s to near 80s. Low temperatures will be crisp in the lower 50s. Looking ahead, next week will start out sunny and warm before more showers and storms later in the week.
