GOOD EVENING AND THANK YOU FOR JOINING US. I’M CYREIA SANDLIN. WE START TONIGHT WITH THE BREAKING NEWS. A SHOOTING IN BROAD DAYLIGHT NEAR CASS AND WELLS STREETS, RIGHT IN DOWNTOWN MILWAUKEE. THE MILWAUKEE MEDICAL EXAMINATOR CONFIRMS A WOMAN HAS DIED. 12 NEWS EMILY POFAHL IS ON THE SCENE, JUST TWO BLOCKS FROM CATHEDRAL SQUARE. EMILY. THE STREET IS OPEN TO TRAFFIC. NOW. YES. AREA. WELL, THE POLICE LEFT THE SCENE ABOUT AN HOUR AGO, BUT WHILE THEY WERE HERE, WE SAW THEM FOCUSED HEAVILY ON THIS PART OF THE STREET HERE, RIGHT BY THE COLONIAL APARTMENTS. And here’s what our 12 news cameras captured when we first arrived on the scene. Milwaukee police officers and forensics blocked off the street for hours. Witnesses say the shooting occurred around 1 p.m. today. We know an adult female was killed, and witnesses we’ve spoken to say they did not see the shooter, nor did they see police take anyone into custody. We saw officers retrieving items from this silver car. We also saw officers towing this car, which was apparently part of this investigation. A witness who lives across the street says she saw the chaotic scene moments after the shooting. I GOT HOME AND WITNESSED A PRETTY EMOTIONAL SCENE OF THE DAUGHTER FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. IT WAS HER MOTHER. UH, AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I HEARD AMONG THE HYSTERICAL SOUNDS. SHE WAS PRETTY EMOTIONAL, CRYING, AND WAS OBVIOUSLY DISTRESSED THAT, EMILY, HAVE THE POLICE MADE ANY ARRESTS YET? WE’RE STILL WORKING TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT IF THE MPD HAS APPROVED ANYONE AND WHAT EXACTLY LEAD TO THIS SHOOTING. BUT PEOPLE HERE ARE DEFINITELY PREPARED FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN.
