Grandfather arrested for covering up Porsche accident

What’s the matter

The grandfather of the 17-year-old Pune boy involved in a fatal Porsche crash that killed two software engineers has been arrested. PTI reported.

The arrest came after the family driver claimed that the grandfather had wrongfully imprisoned him and pressured him to take responsibility for the accident.

“The teenager’s grandfather and father allegedly took the driver’s phone and locked him in his house… from May 19 to 20,” a criminal investigation department official said.

Charged under the Youth Criminal Code for serving alcohol to minors

The driver was freed by his wife, the officer added.

Based on the driver’s complaint, the Yerawada police have registered a separate offence against the teenager’s grandfather and father under sections 365 (abduction with intent to secretly and unlawfully confine a person) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or confining a person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Teenager accused of fatal car crash released on bail

The teenager was driving the unregistered Porsche at 200 km/h when he hit Ashwini Kostha and Anish Awadhiya, who were riding a motorcycle, from behind.

Both died on the spot.

Amazingly, the teenager was released on bail 15 hours after the accident, with the condition that he write an essay on road safety, among other things.

His quick release on bail by the Juvenile Justice Court (JBB) sparked a public outcry, after which he was remanded to an observation home on Wednesday.

Teenager’s father remanded in custody until June 7

On Friday, the teenager’s father, Vishal Agarwal, was remanded in custody until June 7.

According to police, the real estate developer gave the car to his son even though he knew that he did not have a driver’s license.

A special court in Pune also remanded five other accused, including the owner and employees of two bars where the youth had reportedly consumed alcohol before the incident.
