Boston man identified as suspect in vandalism at Newton Jewish Community Center, additional incident – ​​NBC Boston

Police in Newton, Massachusetts, have identified a suspect in connection with the vandalism that occurred at the Jewish Community Center earlier this week.

Newton Police said officers responded to the JCC at 333 Nahanton Street around 5:53 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a man tearing down blue ribbons tied to trees along the property.

A 49-year-old Boston man was found at the scene and identified by police as a suspect. He is charged with criminal damage, criminal damage to property for the purpose of intimidation and theft. His name has not yet been released by police.

While police were investigating the vandalism at the JCC, officers discovered that the suspect was also the driver of a white SUV that was involved in another incident in the city on April 30. That day, police say, the man allegedly drove to Newton to harass and intimidate members of the Jewish community traveling there.

He was arrested by Newton police on Thursday and is scheduled to appear in Newton District Court on charges of assault with the purpose of intimidation, assault with a dangerous weapon and violation of constitutional rights.
