First Alert Weather Warning: Gusty winds mark the start of Memorial Day weekend

A First Alert weather warning was issued from Friday noon to Saturday noon.

Forecasts call for dry conditions while westerly winds will impact the Coachella Valley, causing sand drifts and dust and reducing air quality and visibility.

Wind advisories have been issued for the entire region, affecting the San Gorgonio Pass area near Banning and several cities in Imperial County.

Although no wind advisory has been issued in the Coachella Valley, the South Coast AQMD has issued an air quality advisory that begins at 1 p.m. Friday and ends at 7 a.m. Saturday.

In desert cities, increased particle pollution due to the dust being stirred up is to be expected. The values can fluctuate hourly and be harmful to sensitive groups of people.

Our Future Tracker shows that westerly winds will peak on Friday evening. Wind conditions are expected to ease by midday on Saturday.

Air quality and visibility impacts are expected. Our First Alert weather warning will continue to track these conditions throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
