Kejriwal demands fair investigation and justice in the Maliwal attack case as there are two versions of the incident

New Delhi: In his first reaction to the alleged attack on his official residence, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said he expects a fair investigation into the matter and that justice will be served.

Maliwal has alleged that she was “attacked” by Kejriwal’s personal assistant Bibhav Kumar when she went to meet the prime minister on May 13. Police have registered a case and arrested Kumar in this connection.

In an interview with PTI, the chief minister said the matter was currently “sub-judicial” and his comment could have an impact on the proceedings.

“But I expect there will be a fair investigation. Justice should be served. There are two versions of the incident. Police should investigate both versions fairly and justice should prevail,” Kejriwal said.

His aide Kumar is currently in five-day police custody in connection with the case.

Earlier, Maliwal claimed that there was “a lot of pressure” on everyone in the party to denigrate her.

“Yesterday I received a call from a major party leader. They told me how much pressure is put on everyone, that they have to say bad things about Swati, that they have to break her by leaking her personal photos. “It’s being said that anyone who supports them will be expelled from the party,” the Rajya Sabha MP said in a post on X.

“Someone has a duty to hold a press conference and someone has a duty to tweet. It is someone’s duty to call the volunteers in America and raise something against me,” she added.

On Tuesday, Kumar was taken to Mumbai to recover data from his phone, which he had allegedly formatted before his arrest.

Police suspect Kumar formatted his phone after transferring its data to a person or device in Mumbai.

Kumar’s phones and laptop along with CCTV footage from Kejriwal’s house have been sent for forensic examination, an official said. As Kumar’s police custody ends on Thursday, investigators are trying to collect all evidence related to the case, he said.
