Man hospitalized after kayaking accident in Loch

An Italian man was taken to hospital after he and another kayaker capsized in an inlet.

He and the other person, who were not wearing life jackets, got into trouble and ended up in the water in Loch Carron in the Highlands at 8.38pm on Tuesday.

The Coastguard said the Kyle RNLI lifeboat and a Coastguard helicopter attended the scene. But when they arrived, a group of passing kayakers managed to rescue the two people and bring them back to the Ardaneaskan coast.

The couple was probably on vacation and was handed over to the care of the emergency services.

The Italian man, who is in his 60s, was taken to Broadford Hospital on Skye, while the other person was assessed at the scene and did not require further medical attention.

The Kyle of Lochalsh Coastguard Rescue Team was also on site.
