Scam Alert: Local funeral home reports unauthorized calls to families

Deal Funeral Homes in Statesboro have learned of a scam targeting families the funeral home served. You can find your message about the scam below.

It has been brought to our attention that an individual posing as a funeral home employee is contacting families and asking for additional payment over the phone.

Please note that our funeral home will never ask you for payment or other information over the phone. Please do not pay anyone over the phone, but rather call the police immediately.

If you are ever unsure, please feel free to call us directly and speak to our staff.

Remember: If you are ever unsure about the legitimacy of a call, Hang up and DO NOT provide any financial information to the caller. The U.S. Social Security Administration highlights the following warning signs that you may be dealing with a scammer:

• The individual claims there is a problem with your account
• They put pressure on you to act immediately
• They instruct you to pay in a new, specific way
