City police warn against releasing a violent sex offender

City police have issued a warning to the public after a convicted violent sex offender was released from prison and is living in Edmonton.

“Ryan White is a convicted violent sex offender and the Edmonton Police Service has reasonable grounds to believe that he will commit another violent crime against someone in the community,” a police spokesperson said in a news release Saturday.

White’s release will be subject to a conditional court order and will be managed by the EPS Behavioral Assessment Unit.

Police said White was a violent sex offender with a violent past, which caused harm to his victims in his series of crimes.

“He physically and sexually harassed female adults, particularly vulnerable women, including sex workers. “White also physically assaulted a female infant and an older adult female,” the police news release said.

White’s court-ordered conditions include a curfew between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless approved by his supervisor.

He must live in an apartment approved by his supervisor and may not change that address until he has written approval from his supervisor. He is not allowed to leave the city of Edmonton without written permission and must wear an electronic monitoring device.

He is prohibited from entering areas where sex workers are known to be recruited, must not possess alcohol or drugs, and must notify his designated supervisor before entering into a sexual or intimate relationship, marriage or civil partnership with any woman, and he has to reveal his criminal history to the woman.
