Chris Leak’s accuser over alleged sexual misconduct decides not to press charges

Former Florida Gators and Chicago Bears quarterback Chris Leak has been investigated for the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in Orlando, Florida.

David Harris from the Orlando Sentinel reported the information on Oct. 5 by Orlando police. On Monday, Harris noted that Orlando police announced that prosecutors would not press charges against Leak:

The girl and her guardian decided last week not to pursue the matter, police said. She reported the incident to a school resource officer earlier this month.

Leak’s Tallahassee-based attorney, Tim Jansen, said his client was “relieved but not surprised.”

Jansen said the allegations against Leak were false.

“He firmly denied the accusation from the beginning,” said Jansen.

Leak, 31, has not been charged. The allegations stem from a Sept. 5 incident at Edgewater High School, where Leak served as head football coach. He resigned on October 3 after starting his term 0-5, although he did not give a reason at the time.

“Leak loves his players and, for the sake of the team, he didn’t want this to be a distraction from an already tough season,” Jansen said, according to Harris. “According to Jansen, Leak isn’t sure what he’ll do next.

According to the police report, the unnamed girl discussed an inappropriate massage she had given at Leak’s request. She said Leak asked for the massage and then came out of the shower wearing only a towel. He later allegedly placed her hands on his genitals, which he “grazed” a few times during the incident.

After learning that the victim had told a friend about the incident, Leak allegedly gave $100, according to the report.

Edgewater athletic director Janet Rasmussen has had no comment on the matter, and prosecutors have not received any information about possible prosecution.

Leak was in his first season as the high school head coach after working at Florida under former head coach Will Muschamp and then with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He ended his playing career after the 2012 season.
