UP man shoots mother, attacks woman with hammer, throws children off roof before killing himself

Shockwaves spread like wildfire in Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh after a man brutally murdered his five family members before committing suicide. The incident took place on Saturday (May 11) in Palhapur village Rampur Mathura in Sitapur, nearly 90 km from Lucknow.

The accused, identified as 42-year-old Anurag Singh, first shot his 65-year-old mother Savitri. He then fatally attacked his 40-year-old wife Priyanka with a hammer.

The man then turned his attention to his three children. He threw them all from the roof of his house – Ashwini (12), Aarna (9) and Advik (6) – resulting in two more deaths as Advik sustained life-threatening injuries. Advik later died in the hospital.

The man then shot himself.

According to media reports, the man was mentally disabled and a drug addict. He often argued with his family members, who wanted to send him to a rehabilitation center.

Before he rioted on Saturday, the man is said to have had an argument with his family members.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Advik seriously injured and the bodies of five family members.

“Today, police received information from Palapur village that a mentally ill person named Anurag Singh, aged 45, allegedly killed five people from his family before committing suicide. During investigation, police found that he killed his wife aged 40 and his mother aged 65 and his three children aged 12, nine and six are investigating,” Sitapur SP Chakresh became Mishra was quoted by news agency PTI.

Police said further investigations were underway.
