Man arrested and charged after stealing car with child inside

The child was found safe 30 minutes later at the corner of University Drive and Crandon Drive in Clayton.

BRENTWOOD, Mo. – The man accused of stealing a car from a Brentwood gas station with a child inside was arrested Friday afternoon, police said.

Stephen Dunn was arrested in connection with a carjacking Thursday at the Mobil gas station at 2120 S. Brentwood Blvd. arrested. Brentwood police did not say where Dunn was arrested.

He was charged with child abduction, endangering the welfare of a child and theft of a motor vehicle, according to court records.

The car with a two-year-old child in it was stolen from the gas station around 4 a.m. Thursday. The child’s mother said she left the vehicle running while she went into the gas station store to purchase something, court documents said.

The child was found safe 30 minutes later at the corner of University Drive and Crandon Drive in Clayton. Court documents said home surveillance footage showed the suspect removing the child from the trunk of the car and leaving him on the front lawn of a residence before driving away.

Police said the car, a blue Chevrolet Equinox, was later found outside a Super 8 Motel in Pevely, Missouri.

No further information about the incident was released.
