A man was stabbed and a police officer was shot with a crossbow in a “serious incident” in High Wycombe

A police officer was shot with a crossbow and a man was stabbed in a serious weapons incident in High Wycombe.

As previously reported, there is a large police presence in the Downley area this evening following a disturbance on School Lane.

In a statement to the Free Press, Deputy Police Chief Tim Metcalfe confirmed that a man in his 60s was stabbed. A police officer was also shot in the leg with a crossbow.

A 54-year-old man from High Wycombe has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Chief Constable Metcalfe said: “We are currently dealing with a serious assault and weapons incident in High Wycombe.

“A man in his 60s suffered a stab wound at around 6pm yesterday (October 5) at an address in School Lane, Downley.

“Police officers attended and one was shot in the leg with a crossbow. He was taken to hospital but has since been released.

“Our thoughts are with the injured officer and we are doing everything we can to support him and his colleagues, as well as everyone else within the force affected by the incident.”

“The victim of the attack was also taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Our thoughts are also with him.

“A 54-year-old man from High Wycombe has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He was also taken to hospital under police supervision with potentially life-changing injuries as he was shot by an armed police officer during the incident. We are currently not looking for anyone in connection with the incident.

“As a result, there is a large police presence in the area but there is no ongoing threat to the general public. Anyone with concerns should contact a uniformed police officer.

“There is a large police cordon so please avoid the area as much as you can.”
